The Envirostream Story

Safe, innovative battery processing, right here in Australia

Project outcomes

Since commencing the first process run in January 2017, Envirostream has effectively recovered 140 tonnes (140,000kgs) of material from end-of-life batteries in just 5 months.

Envirostream has designed and built specialist, enclosed separation technology that can recover 95% of the materials contained in the energy storage batteries.

The steel, copper and aluminium are sold into national markets to be used back in the manufacture of new products and the multi-metal compound is returned to the battery industry to be processed into new batteries, showcasing a true circular economic model.

Our Australian-owned, enclosed battery processing facility in Victoria is based on international best practice, designed and built by the team at Envirostream and is capable of recovering 40 tonnes (40,000 kgs) of batteries per month on each processing line.

Being of a unique modular design, the equipment can be scaled up to meet any volume requirements and can be installed in any state or territory further reducing the cost and environmental impact of this rapidly growing and problematic waste stream and, reduce the amount of battery waste we are currently shipping off-shore to other countries or ending up in our landfills.

There is more to this ground-breaking innovation story than just recovering materials from batteries. Drawing on Envirostream’s core values; Shared Responsibility, Innovation, People and Reputation, Envirostream has created 5 full time positions with the vision to expand as the demand increases. With strong ties to the community Envirostream also sponsors the annual Variety Bash, Australia’s longest running motoring charity event raising funds for the Variety Children’s charity.

Our vision is dedicated to providing a solution to reduce the impacts these products have through a shared responsibility model and backed by our ISO14001 Environmental Management System accreditation.

Envirostream is Australia’s first lithium processing company providing a local on-shore battery recycling solution for the clean energy sector through innovative resource recovery.
